Ultimate Center Belt

Product Information

Ultimate Center Belt

What will it do?
It will be your own personal trainer, as it will:
•Solve your connection problems once for all.
•Help you gain remarkable awareness and feeling.
•Give you instant feedback to put your dancing on the right track.

What's in the Kit?
•Two different colored belts, expertly designed for a precise fit.
•An instructional DVD and brochure with tips and exercises.
•A bag for storing the belts.

1.) Each partner takes one belt. The belts are "one size fits all". One belt has red Velcro, the other gray. It doesn't matter which belt you wear as long, as they are not the same color Velcro!
2.) Place the belt so that the colored Velcro area is on your right rib cage and then wrap both ends of the belt around your ribcage with the logo side on top.
3.) The belt should feel snug enough so that it does not move around or slip down, but no so tight that you can't breathe!
4.) Adjust the belts (up or down) so that the belts are at the same height from the floor.
5.) Take your partner position, and let the Velcro sections connect!
6.) Try dancing while keeping the Velcro sections connected. If you hear the sound of Velcro peeling away, you are losing you center! Adjust and try it again!

Note: For promenade position, you will feel half of the Velcro section peel away, but you should still be connected with the Leader's right connected to the Follower's left side.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question: My partner is much taller than I am. Where should the belt be placed on?
Answer: Your partner’s belt will have to be lower on his right side and yours higher to match the difference in height. And once the belt is placed make sure it is at the same height from the floor.

Question: Should we wear the belt all the time during practice?
Answer: The belt gives you an awareness of different types of mistakes you might do. Practice with the belts to identify any "sticky" spots and correct them, then try without them.

Question: We lose our upper connection point, where should we place our belts?
Answer: Place it higher (on your ribcage area), so you could concentrate on a higher connection point.

Question: We lose our lower connection point, where should we place our belts?
Answer: Place it lower (close to your center area) so you could concentrate on lower connection area.

Question: I have a problem being too glued to my partner. How can this belt help?
Answer: Bring your center to the back part of the belt while connected. It will give you awareness, show you how far you can move your center weight away from your partner, but still stay connected.

Question: I have a lot of tension in my arms, can this belt help me?
Answer: Yes! It will give you awareness of your connection and remove tension from your upper body, arms and shoulders in particular.

Question: How can the Ultimate Center belt help me with promenade or fallaway position?
Answer: While dancing promenade or fallaway half of the Velcro portion should peel away. Follower's left side will be connected to the leader's right side. You will feel a big stretch in your body, while trying to maintain this position.

Walking Exercise
This exercise will teach you how to time your actions with your partner while going forward or backward, helping your partnership achieve a smooth, effortless movement.
1. Leader: walk forward. To have harmony together while walking, it is important for the leader to start movement with their body weight and not the feet.
2. Follower: Once the leader moves their body forward, the follower walks backwards, keeping the weight forward and moving the feet ahead of the body to achieve togetherness. Follower should feel their body weight moving slightly later than the leader's.
3. Switch and do same thing with the leader waking backwards and the follower walking forward.

Sway Exercise
Sway action is created by moving (swinging) your center of mass sideways and allowing the rest of the body to follow.
A very common mistake is to start the sway from the upper body. It is important for each partner to keep their head still and to feel the stretch on the side of the body.

Rotation Exercise
While rotating to left or right with your partner, it is important to rotate around the common center and not to slide in front of each other. You should keep the distance between your spines consistent.
There is a limit to how much people can rotate together - if you are about to overturn while wearing the belt you will feel it peeling away. While each partner's flexibility might be different, try to harmonize your action with your partners'

Swing Exercise
This exercise will help you improve your swing motion. It is easy to do with very slow waltz music. Lowering action happens at end of 3, and rising action on 2.

Leader's action:
1. Get the body weight on the right foot, keeping the left foot in front of your body (count 2 with music).
2. Release the body weight to your left foot, lowering as weight is placed (count 3 with music).
3. Move forward to the right foot (count 1 with music).
4. Keep moving forward to your left foot and go up (count 2 with music).
Leave your right foot slightly behind.
5. Release your body weight backwards onto the right foot (count 3 with music).
6. Move back to your left foot (count 1 with music).
7. Move back and up to your right foot (count 2 with music). The follower mirrors the leader's action.
You should try to feel the natural fall of your weight going forward or backwards. Alternate your feet. 8 Bars start with left foot and then 8 bars with right foot. This motion will improve all of your swing dances

Do you have trouble keeping in contact with your partner? Breaking at the waist? Can't stay together? Lets be honest, its something that every dancer will encounter at some point.

The problem isn't so much that the dancers can't stay together, its that they don't know when they are separating from each other. If you don't know there is a problem, its hard to address it.

And this is where this product comes in. It maintains a physical connection between the dancers and provides an audible and tactile indication of when they are separating (too much). If you really need to separate from your partner (take a break, enter Promenade Position, stuff like that), you can easily peel away from them. But as soon as you get back into Closed Position, your connection is back in place to help you with your dancing.

This isn't a ridged, fixed connection, it flexes and moves with you as you dance helping you understand and maintain the connection for yourself. It enables you to feel how much and where you are pulling away from your partner. This isn't doing the work for you, it helps you understand what you should be doing as individuals and as a couple.

Yes, it works just fine for American Smooth since the connection can be broken at any time for open figures.

It's as invaluable teaching and dance aid, we use it all the time in the studio for Standard and Smooth.

This is a first class tool to help a partnership work on developing a common center and awareness of weak moments, trouble spots where they 'peel' away from each other. My partner and I enjoy using this to trouble shoot any problem spots, or simply to focus on our common center and moving together in harmony.

A simple, yet incredibly effective tool I highly recommend to anyone interested in improving their international standard dancing, whether at beginner level or even all the way up to professional. Definitely a MUST HAVE for competitive couples.

    Happy dancing!
