Michael Mead and Toni Redpath Win 4th Consecutive US National Professional Smooth Championship


September 25, 2002

On September 3, 2002, Michael Mead and Toni Redpath became the only couple, or individual, to have ever won the title: US National Professional (American Style Smooth) Dancesport Champions four times. Couples (and individuals) who have won the National Professional American Style Smooth title three times include David Hamilton , with Olga Foraponova in 1997-1998 and with Teresa Shiry in 1995; Rosendo and Terri Fumero,1988-1990; Joe Lozano and Jan Mattingly, 1985-1987. Lee and Peggy Santos were 3 time champions in the Professional American Style event ,which evolved into the American Style Smooth event, 1977-1979.

Michael Mead and Toni Redpath began their partnership, competing in International Style Standard, in the Fall of 1996. Their first competition as a partnership was at the Ohio Star Ball, in Columbus, Ohio.

The following year, 1997, Mead and Redpath added American Style Smooth to their competition program. Their first American Smooth competition was at the Heart of America Championships, in Kansas City, Missouri.

They won the Rising Star Championship in American Style Smooth in September, 1998.

In 1999, Michael Mead and Toni Redpath emerged as the victors in a tightly contested, (Rule 11) US National Professional American Style Smooth Dancesport Championship. In subsequent years, 2000, 2001, 2002, they continued to bring home the title, and the trophy each time by winning all four dances ( Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Viennese Waltz). They are current Four Time Undefeated US National Dancesport Champions in the Professional American Style Smooth Division.

Other National and International competitive titles and honors collected along this 5- year journey include: US Representatives to the 2000 (4th Place), 2001 and 2002 World Classic Showdance Championships ; Canadian Open American Smooth Champions (2000, 2001); Top American Ballroom Couple, (1999, 2000); Top American Rising Star Couple (1998); Australian Open finalists(1996, 1997).

Michael and Toni were married on the island of Kauai, September 28, 2000, and now reside in San Diego, California. They coach out of Londance Studio, Santa Ana; and Champion Ballroom Academy, San Diego.

They are in high demand for coaching, seminars and shows and travel extensively. They have an all new show program for 2003, and are ready to share it with you.
