Wisconsin State Championships

Saturday evening at the Wisconsin State Championships showcased the four Open Professional divisions. It was a fabulous night of dancing, a sold out audience and was highlighted by a phenominal show by US Latin Champions Riccardo Cocchi and Yulia Zagoruychenko. Even though the other divisions had three rounds, the Open Professional Standard fielded just three couples. However, even though the quantity was low, the quality was high.

The judges were fairly unanimous with the final result, which in my opinion was just.

Third place was awarded to Vladimir Triaszin and Alicia Gruttadauria from Rochester, NY. This couple have been getting better and better over the last few months. Still somewhat tight through the upper body which tends to inhibit their movement.

Second place went to a new partnership Nazar Batih and Sarika Hudson from New York City. It was good to see Sarika back on the floor again.
I think that she has got herself a very good partner. Clean easy movment a great shape and lots of promise. They still have plenty of work to do, but they will improve as they compete more. Apparently this was their fourth competition together.
Winning in good style Artem Plakhotnyi and Inna Berlizyeva from Phoenix, AZ. This couple have become one of the top contenders in this country, and this evening they did not dissapoint. Wonderful movement, easy flowing with excellent expressive musicality. They do dance better when the competition is not so strong but get tighter at the bigger challenges. Maybe there is something to learn there!

All in all, a very good competetion and a wonderful compliment to the rest of the program this evening.
